These elusive toys give collectors a run for their money

Every collector has a “holy grail”, an item that eludes them for years and would be the masterpiece of their collection. TMNT collectors are no different and there sure are a handful of very rare toys out there. Turtles count it off…

Shogun Triceraton / Shogun Shaote

Release date: 1994

Series: Shogun

A late release as the line was winding down (this is the big trend with the hard to find toys) the Shogun series was glossed over initially but has found a devoted following due to their rarity. While the 4 Turtles, Splinter, April, and Shredder were also released it is Triceraton and Shaote that are the crown jewels.

Expect to pay anywhere from $40-$100 for each loose and $100+ carded.

Hot Spot

Release date: 1993

Series: Basic Series

Hot Spot was one of the last original characters to be released under Playmates Toys first TMNT original series and was released with other sought after toys including Mona Lisa, Sandstorm, Half Court, Scratch, and Robotic Bebop & Rocksteady.

Expect to pay anywhere from $60-$100 for each loose and well over $100+ carded. The thing to watch for is his accessories as those are incredibly hard to track down and in good condition.

My First Raph

Release date: 1992

Series: Misc

An interesting direction for TMNT in ’92 this large Raphael could be filled with water to emulate the feeling of real skin (I guess). Sort of odd and creepy and probably why it didn’t sell at the time (Water Babies anyone?). Raph was the only character to be released in the “My First” series.

This oddball goes for about $50-$70 out of box and around $90 in box.

Giant TMNT Trolls

Release date: 1994

Series: Giant Series

The TMNT got into the 90’s troll craze first with the small versions of turtle trolls and then later in ’94 with GIANT trolls! If people liked little troll turtles they will love giant trolls right? Not so much it turns out.

If you see giant TMNT trolls, buy them! As of this posting there were zero listings for these and from what I have seen in the past they fetch a good amount of dough.

Channel 6 News Van

Release date: 1993

Series: Vehicle

Channel 6 finally got its time to shine in ’93 with the Channel 6 van (and included green suited April). Basically a modified party van the news van came a bunch of extras and a great number of decals. This one for whatever reason didn’t get the attention it deserved at the time and is now highly sought after, even more so if it is complete.

The Channel 6 news van loose fetches a hefty $150-$250 complete generally. Boxed this bad boy is well over the $300 mark!
